VoidSend vs Telegram

Telegram is fast, feature-rich and popular, and it is often described as an encrypted messenger. The important detail is that regular Telegram chats, groups and channels are not end-to-end encrypted. Only Secret Chats are, and they work on one device at a time.

Where each one wins

If you use Telegram for public channels and large communities, it does that well. If you use it because you believe your chats are private, they are only private in Secret Chats. VoidSend encrypts every message, group and call end-to-end by default, with standards-based post-quantum cryptography, and never asks for a phone number.

To be fair to Telegram

  • Telegram's Secret Chats are end-to-end encrypted, and its clients are open source.
  • Telegram supports very large public groups and channels, which VoidSend does not target.

How VoidSend's encryption works

Every message key is agreed with a hybrid of X25519 and ML-KEM-768, sealed with AES-256-GCM and signed with ML-DSA-65. Keys derive from your passkey, so nothing is backed up or uploaded. The full explanation is on the security page, and the reasoning behind post-quantum cryptography is in post-quantum messaging explained.
